I'm fine. I'm GIDDY. [co-written with [livejournal.com profile] girlof_secrets, open to Sar

Baileigh had just about decided that staring at the squiggling lines on the EFM readout would make anybody crazy, and she made herself stop obsessing over every little bump and rise and stare at the blank TV screen instead. “This is stupid,” she declared for the fifth or sixth time, ignoring for a moment that it had been her decision to come to the hospital and make sure nothing was wrong. “I fell. It’s not the end of the world. I’m sure when I get fat and try to wear heels, I’ll fall again. The stupid vamp getting in a sucker punch has nothing to do with my uterus. I should‘ve just gone HOME. They won‘t even let me have my phone. I could at least play a game of Stick Wars, that‘d make me feel better. Julian‘d let me play Stick Wars. Stupid hospital. Stupid nurses. Stupid Cain. Stupid, stupid vampires.”

Claire looked up from where she was sitting as Bee declared once again that this whole thing was stupid. She could have pointed out that it was Bee's idea to come to the hospital but she was sure it would just fall on deaf ears once again. "We just needed to make sure the baby was fine, you did fall pretty hard." She replied as she listened to her friend rant. "They're probably worried about your phone interfering with the machines here or whatever." She nodded to the machine that was currently attached to Bee.

“I’ve fallen way harder,” Baileigh pointed out, pouting down at the transducers strapped to her abdomen. They itched, stupid, stupid things, and they kept having to move them because Beanie kept moving and they were losing her heartbeat. Hi, duh. She was moving, wasn‘t that a good sign? “Okay, yes, that was before. Before is before. But she’s fine. I’d know if she wasn’t fine. This is stupid. Julian’s going to flip, Cain flipped, Annie’s gonna flip and they’re all gonna put me on house arrest-- stupid fucking vampires.” She plucked at the soft, worn scrub pants they’d given her to wear. “I’m kinda pissed the last one got away,” she finally admitted, glowering. “The bitch bit you. She needs to die. Any other time she would‘ve.”

Claire almost felt bad for the fact that she had been the one to contact the others; not Julian because he deserved to know but maybe she felt a little bad for calling Cain who then called Annie. She knew they were going to flip out. "It's okay, I'll come keep you company?" She offered with a faint smile as she crossed her ankles, glancing over at the machine to watch the heart beat for a moment before looking back. "It's okay, I'm fine." She motioned at her neck. "See, no bite marks." But she could understand and she did with a little frown. "I'm kind of pissed she got away too. Do you think she saw me heal?" There was something else she wanted to ask.

Baileigh managed a slight smile in reply, then shook her head firmly at the question. “No. Holy water to the face--which, by the way, excellent move.” She grinned a tiny bit before sobering. “She was totally preoccupied with the agonizing pain, but even on the off-chance that she did see you heal--yeah, I don’t like it.” She bit her lower lip and fiddled with a loose string. “And furthermore, I don’t let them walk away. Ever.”

"Do you think my blood would have an effect on her?" After all, if her blood was fed to a normal human it would heal them of any damage and so she wondered what her blood would do to a vampire that had just bit her too. She shifted her weight in the chair a little bit as she nodded. "I know. You were preoccupied though."

“Honestly, I’m not a hundred percent sure,” she admitted, biting at her lower lip. “I know a Slayer’s blood is supposed to be extra tasty, and any drugs that we take pass on to them when they drink. But they don’t feel pain in quite the same way that you and I do. I don‘t know if you would‘ve--and I apologize for how creepy this sounds--tasted different.”

"I just wonder if she would have healed faster." She murmured, trying not to look too worried. "I mean, my blood brought my dad back from the dead." She looked down at her nails, studying them for a moment before looking up at her friend once more. "And it's not creepy, I've dealt...okay, it's kind of creepy." She gave a half laugh. "I actually got bit by a vampire...a vampire." Like her friend didn't know.

“She only got a sip--and vampires heal pretty fast anyway.” But the thought worried her, and it was just another reason the bitch needed to be tracked down and killed. She’d get Annie on it ASAP. And help if she had to. Christ, Nikki Wood was the only Chosen and slayed the entire time she was pregnant. Baileigh could help track down one wayward vampire. She managed a slight smile. “It’s pretty damn weird, I know. They’re just so cold, and--well. It’s weird.”

Claire nodded, trying to let herself be comforted by the fact the vampire only got a tiny sip and so it should be fine. There shouldn't be a way for the vampire to realize there was something different about the girl that she had bit. "Yeah." She looked towards the door before looking back at her friend. "How hard do you think it would be to track her down?" She was just curious, right? But there was a look on her face that was clear she was curious about something.

“If she stays local? Shouldn’t be too hard. They’re creatures of habit, just like we are.” She tilted her head at Claire curiously, studied the look on her face. Talking was a good distraction from…other stuff. “Caramel macchiato for your thoughts?”

"I'm wondering about finding her." She admitted because how could she turn down a caramel macchiato? "I mean, I've had some training in fighting and you're not really doing the whole Slaying thing anymore, right?" She gave an awkward little smile.

Baileigh knew she should probably shut the idea down right now, before it grew too much, but the truth was, well…it wasn’t a bad one. Well, it was a bad one, but Claire had handled herself really, really well. “I was gonna turn it over to Annie, but…hey, she could use the help, being the only Slayer in town.” Not that Annie really WAS the only Slayer in town, there was a small school a little further upstate and a few girls that lived in the city--but, hm. Annie would probably love a little protégé to mold.

Claire looked at Bee as she was expecting her to shoot down the idea but why? Claire can fight, she knows about vampires and she can't be hurt. Yes, she could be used as a big blood bag but she'd just have to be careful not to get caught. "Okay. Plus you could train me a little, be like...my Watchtower or something." She nodded. "And Annie could go with me and I could learn how to do the whole slaying bit."

She turned it over in her mind a few times. “The parental/uncle/big brother figures in your life might not like it,” she pointed out, then lifted a hand before Claire could object. “But you know what? You’re an adult. And personally? I think you should be prepared for what’s out there. So when Annie comes storming into the room in…oh, T-minus four minutes, we should talk about it.” Because enabling Claire to be reckless, yes, that was much better than being flitted over.

"No doubt but it's not anything more dangerous than the stuff I've done in the past. Probably less so." She nodded her head. "And it's not like they really have to know right away?" She offered before smiling a little more as Bee agreed that she was an adult and that she should be prepared for what was out there. Something that she agreed with completely. "Think she'll be okay with training me?"

Baileigh wasn’t so sure it was something that could be kept from them for very long, especially as Peter and Sylar were telepaths, but Baileigh still maintained that Claire was an adult and knew her own mind. “You kidding? She’d probably love it. A little baby not-Slayer to mold in her image? Totally up Annie‘s alley.”

Claire chuckled softly. "Baby not-Slayer, should be fun." She nodded her head before pulling out her phone and offering it over to her friend. "There, find a game or two to play with till everyone arrives in a flurry."

“Oh my God, I love you,” Baileigh beamed, happily accepting the phone and checking the monitor quickly before bringing up a round of Tetris. “Watch the door for the nurses. I am SO trouncing your high score, biatch.”

"No, yer not!" a voice called from just outside the room, familiar in its irritability. A conversation could be overheard just outside the room as low voices grew in volume, Cain speaking with the man who had been Baileigh's admitting physician.

"Dr. Callahan, I resent the implication-"

"That you don't know yer head from yer goddamn ass? Fuckin'-A-right, you don't."

"You have no grounds-"

"I hope you don't finish that fuckin' sentence, I got a patient to see and no time to deal with yer survivalist bullshit. You fucked up, you fucked up bad, and you need to be called on it. Seriously, the second you saw Mrs. Lazarey had a fever and elevated white count with a bun in the oven? You CALL! HER FUCKING! DOCTOR!!!"

Silence reigned for a moment before another brief, unintelligible conversation took place and Cain finally entered the room, Bee's chart in one hand and a scowl plastered firmly to his face. The brunt of his anger, however, was all but gone.

"Sorry," he sighed mildly, "but yer admitting doc was a fuckhead, and I cannot fuckin' abide by that bullshit. Claire never should've gotten to a phone before he did..."

Trailing off, he nodded in greeting to Claire before moving to Bee's bedside, taking a second look at her chart. "So how you feelin', Bee? Okay? No cramps, no abdominal discomfort?"

Claire looked up as she heard the yelling outside the room, arching a brow in an amused manner as she glanced over at Bee and then looked back at the door as she waited for Cain to come roaring in. The plane had made good time and so had he.

When the door opened, she chuckled faintly as she smiled briefly at him. "He didn't think to check me when taking Bee's phone." She shrugged a bit. She figured he was worried and that's where the anger was coming from. "But hi to you too."

She settled back as he started firing questions at Bee.

With a sigh and a roll of her eyes, Baileigh passed Claire's phone back to her and sulked back on the bed. "Nope, not a thing--all fine. Very normal." She glanced at the EFM monitor, just to make sure the readout that was supposed to monitor any contractions had stayed flat. "Can I go home now?"

[identity profile] morsus-mihi.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope." Cain replied flatly, setting her chart on the foot of the bed before turning back to her and gently taking her jaw between his hands, probing her glands with his fingers. "Only thing yer doc did right so far was stick yer butt in her for twenty four hours, so that's how long you'll be here."

"Motherfucker, you better be kidding!"

Glancing over his shoulder sharply at the sudden appearance of Beth Ann in the doorway, Cain scowled before going back to the task of examining Bee, moving from her glands to lifting her left hand and peering at an abrasion that already looked a day old. "Get yer panties out of a knot, she's fine so far."

"Hmph...Church? I'm relieving Sarge of command. Your ass now belongs to me." Annie declared blithely as she walked into the room. Leaning down to hug Bee fiercely for a solid two minutes, when she was done she moved over and hugged Claire a little more quickly but no less fiercely.

"You two? So grounded. You can either go to Christian Bale's room or Zac Efron's. Take your pick."

[identity profile] deep-red-bells.livejournal.com 2009-05-25 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Claire didn't do anything wrong," Baileigh bit off a bit irritably, even after hugging Annie back tightly. "This one's on me. Completely." She batted Cain's hands away and went back to sulking and staring at the EFM readout. "If anything, it would've been a hell of a lot worse if Claire hadn't stepped off. No grounding. She gets a medal."

Julian had been out with the dogs when Claire called, and practicality demanded he take them back home--he couldn't very well take them in and he couldn't leave them outside for hours without water or food or she'd yell at him, so he swung by the house and picked up things for her as well, her robe and one of her blankets and a couple of books, just so she had her things and not just a sterile hospital room. It was all just to calm him down, to take Claire's word she was fine and not go rushing in there like a mad man.

Still, he looked more than a little harried when he arrived with the bag over his shoulder, and had broken more than a few speed limits.

"Are you all right?" He glanced at Cain. "Is she all right?"

Baileigh winced at Sark's appearance and wished, for the fifth or sixth time, that she'd just gone home. "I'm absolutely fine, couple scraps, stupid doctors just want to cover their asses and make sure they can't get sued," she assured him, holding her arms out when he neared, pouting a bit, trying to make light of things. "Annie's mean. I need a hug."

[identity profile] its-notluck.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Claire stayed silent as Cain told Bee that the doctor had been right in sticking her butt in the bed for twenty four hours. The sudden appearance of Annie kept her quiet too as a slight smirk crossed over her mouth at the amusing statement of Sarge being taken out of the command.

Then she was caught in a hug, surprising her a bit though she did hug back just as tightly before pulling back. "Dude, why am I grounded? Not even my...Adam, he doesn't ground me." She huffed.

When Sark appeared, Claire tried to shrink down in her chair a little bit because, honestly, she felt a bit guilty. She shouldn't have dragged Bee into the alley. So she stayed very quiet, sitting in her chair at the side of the room.

[identity profile] morsus-mihi.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's a power play. I promise, won't hurt a bit." Annie assured her with a sober nod. "Besides, you were with her, and Bee fell and...I don't know. You're grounded. Go to Christian Bale's room. He's pretty."

"Both of you, shut it for a sec." Cain grumbled without any real anger as he faced Julian. "I just got in, but I checked her charts and chewed her admitting the fuck out, he's a goddamn moron. They'll tell you her temp and white count are up, but she's a knocked up Slayer, s' normal. Disposition's miserable, which is her norm in a joint like this, she's healing fine, and I'm lookin' her over for the basics now...trauma, signs of infection, basically just bein' a paranoid doctor. Unless I find a concussion or something, she's just fine. Still staying overnight for safety's sake, but healthy as a horse and twice as ornery."

"Good boy." Annie cooed, walking over to pat Cain on the head and get glared at for her trouble. "Now back off and let the happy couple neck."

[identity profile] elementof-risk.livejournal.com 2009-05-26 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Sark took the information from Cain with a frown, watching him, then watching Baileigh. He trusted the other man's assessment that she was going to be all right, but that didn't mean he had to like that she was here, that something had attacked her. What if she wasn't? Yes, he could have called Adam, or Sylar. Yes, Claire was here. What if it had happened in Greece?

He moved to perch on the edge of the bed, reaching to take her in his arms and give her the hug she'd asked for, holding her close.

"I brought some of your things, if they're going to make you stay here."

Baileigh tried to maintain her 'Of course I'm absolutely, completely fine and there's nothing to worry about ever at all' expression and only let it slip when she was able to hide her face against Julian's neck. The 'what if's were bugging her as well. What if she'd been alone, what if she'd run to the store for a gallon of milk or something--she could handle herself just fine. It wasn't her safety she was worried about.

"You're my hero," she sighed, snuggling against him as much as the transducers belted to her stomach would allow. "I have to stay overnight--which is ridiculous, but like the idiot doctor over there said, paranoia." She lifted her head and stuck her tongue out at Cain before laying it back down on Julian's shoulder. "I figured they'd just give me a quick once over and send me on my way. I so should've known better."
